FALL 2018

THE LITTCHICKS BOOK CLUB

Hey Litt Chicks,

Ginger here.  Our most recent read "An American Marriage" was dramatic, mysterious, and heartbreaking (still crying over poor Roy)!  Thanks to everyone for voting for our Fall book on @thecattwalk @thelittchicks Insta Stories.  The winner is.... All We Ever Wanted by Emily Giffin

This story follows Nina, a wealthy woman with an adored son on his path to Princeton and Tom, a single dad working to get his daughter Lyla into a super prestigious Nashville school.  During a high school party, one drunken racy cell phone pic rocks their world.  Lyla ends up being slut-shamed and Nina's son is seen as the alleged perpetrator.  The community is divided, and the blame game begins.

Super excited to start turning the pages on this one with you all!  Not only does it explore wealth and privilege in the social media world, but it's also very timely as the storyline aligns with the current #MeToo movement - something that we here at the cattwalk care very much about.

Be sure to check @thecattwalk @thelittchicks Insta Stories every Tuesday for book club updates, discussion questions, interactive polls, and more. DM us your photo with your copy of the book (or kindle or audio book) to be featured on @thelittchicks Instagram page. Join the club, you won't regret it!

Much Love,
Ginger

Discussion questions

Up to page 103

(1) Kirk comments on Finch's illegal behavior saying, “he’s confessed and he’s apologized. And this just isn’t suspension worthy. Not after years of perfect behavior. It was one stupid mistake”

In light of recent events in America, this line about letting Finch off with no punishment stands out.  How is this statement timely in our current environment?

(2) Tom is furious about the transgression against his daughter and believes she deserves justice. How do Tom's responsibilities as a parent come into conflict with the ethics of respecting Lyla's wishes?

(3) Kirk bribes Tom with an envelope full of cash hoping he will tell Walter to not take the dispute to the Honor Council. Tom takes the money and leaves - do you think he will drop the charges or is he taking the money in addition to pressing charges?

WHAT TO DRINK WHILE FLIPPING THE PAGES

SMOKED ROSEMARY OIL DIRTY MARTINI

Smoked-Rosemary-Oil-Martini-3.jpg

To get in the mindset of the Nashville elite like our protagonists in this book, join me by sipping one of these elegant martinis while reading along.

  • 2 1/2 oz dry gin

  • 1/2 oz dry vermouth

  • 1 spoon olive juice, (castelvetrano olives are my personal fav)

  • few drops smoked rosemary olive oil

  • rosemary sprig and olive, garnish

Add ice to the drinking glass you will be using to chill it. In a mixer glass, add gin, vermouth, and olive juice. Add ice to fill the glass 3/4 of the way. Mix for 30 seconds. Dump ice from the drinking glass. Strain the martini into your newly chilled glass. Finish with a few drops of oil. Garnish with rosemary sprig and olive. (Go ahead and eat a bowl of those olives while you're at it too, with some cheese and prosciutto if you're like me.)

THE ONE THAT'S BRAVE AND HONEST

A brutally honest memoir by Janelle Hanchett, I'm Just Happy To Be Here is a story on motherhood unlike any other you've read. This one was highly recommended to me by Catt, so you know I'll definitely be reading my copy this autumn.

The one to inspire your grocery list

If you haven't read Catt's "Naked" interview with Kelly LeVeque yet, Do it. Now. Click HERE. You'll look at your food differently and be inspired to take care of your body.  LeVeque has a new book coming out early next year but I had to get my hands on the OG Body Love for some recipes and knowledge first.

THE ONE THAT MAKES YOU QUESTION JUSTICE

The newest book on my radar about America's most infamous criminal is a deep dive with new evidence I couldn't resist buying. I've even convinced a group of friends to read Hunting Charles Manson with me in hopes to discover the true reasoning and mindset behind the group of nice American kids in the 60's who turned to following Manson and committing heinous crimes.
